As soon as you have this bottle in your hands, you will notice its body. From the heavy and sturdy bottle to the intense and deep purple color (remember: deep is when you cannot see your finger in the other side of the glass when you tilt it). And then, in your mouth, you will feel what a full-bodied wine is, fulfilling all your sensory spots. Hint: to feel the body, get some wine and make your tongue swim in the liquid. When the wine is full body you get a silky, soft sensation.  Also, you can learn how weather and winemaking affect the wine. 2012 was a hot year, even for this region. As a result, they got a high-alcohol wine, plenty of ripe flavor. On the other hand, this wine was made in stainless steel vats (which makes the wine fresher) and also aged in oak barrel for 20 months, giving to the wine news aromas and tastes. All of this said, this wine seems to have everything: the force of a full-bodied wine really touched by the sun, the fresh fruits and floral aromas altogether with a well-balanced taste between acid, fruits, alcohol and tannins. Bodegas 1898 Ramon Roqueta ‘Las Barrancas’ Tempranillo – Cabernet Sauvignon Gran Reserva

Medium-Bodied Red Wine 2008  SPAIN (Catalonia)    Tempranillo 60% – Cabernet Sauvignon 40%    13.5% alc.      Serve at 60-64ºF (16-18ºC)   Ramon Roqueta           Wine-Searcher Back to Wines to Learn To keep in mind You can learn about aging wine. In this wine you will experience the aromas of an aged wine, which are quite different from the usual “New World” wines that tend to be young and fruity. The labeling “Gran Reserva” means this wine is from one of the best harvests. These wines are meant to be aged and it takes 6 years to reach the market. During its aging in the winery, this wine has aged 1.5 years inside an oak barrel before being bottled. While in the oak barrel, the wood aromas and textures are transferred to the wine and later while in the “no-oxygen” atmosphere of the bottle the wine acquires smoothness and other aromas. Know what? The main aromas are dried red and black fruits and specially, coming from the aging…vanilla, toasted coconut, tobacco leaf and leather. This wine is to drink while eating. Experience this wine as they do in the Spanish culture and have your glass of wine with a little meal, not too complicated. What if I drink it alone? Sounds perfect too! Make this an opportunity to feel the smooth tannins coming from the oak barrel. Remember: those are the bitter tastes than remain in your tongue after swallowing the wine. They are specially good in this wine, as they are smooth and savvory after that much time in the bottle. Pair with Baby Back Ribs. Do you want an...
