To keep in mind

  • You can learn about the body of wine. As soon as you have this bottle in your hands, you will notice its body. From the heavy and sturdy bottle to the intense and deep purple color (remember: deep is when you cannot see your finger in the other side of the glass when you tilt it). And then, in your mouth, you will feel what a full-bodied wine is, fulfilling all your sensory spots. Hint: to feel the body, get some wine and make your tongue swim in the liquid. When the wine is full body you get a silky, soft sensation.
  • Also, you can learn how weather and winemaking affect the wine. 2012 was a hot year, even for this region. As a result, they got a high-alcohol wine, plenty of ripe flavor. On the other hand, this wine was made in stainless steel vats (which makes the wine fresher) and also aged in oak barrel for 20 months, giving to the wine news aromas and tastes. All of this said, this wine seems to have everything: the force of a full-bodied wine really touched by the sun, the fresh fruits and floral aromas altogether with a well-balanced taste between acid, fruits, alcohol and tannins. This wine reached 94 points in Wine Spectator.
  • The main mouthfeel you will get is a dense finish, powerful but velvety tannins (the bitter sensation in wine) and also a warm sensation coming from the high-alcohol percentage. If you wait, you will notice some acidity. This wine is also extremely savory and with a powerful taste of fresh black and blue fruits with something sweet, spicy and zesty.
  • Know what? The main aromas are prunes, blackberries and some herbs like thyme and rosemary. Coming from the aging, you can find honey, sweet spices and smoky notes.
  • For sure you can find some dishes to pair with this wine, but I would personally drink it alone or chatting with your loved ones under candle lights. This wine is so rich in aromas, and especially in mouthfeel, that you can have it totally alone and enjoy its growing tastes. If you can, leave it a day and try it again. New things appear. It means it may be good to decant the wine and let it breathe at least for 1 hour.
  • Pair with roasted meats or chocolate cake!Did you buy the perfect beef cut to grill? Did you spend a day cooking the state of the art meat sauce? This is the wine that goes perfectly at the side!. But I can’t avoid to make this luxurious recommendation: this wine goes with dark and bitter chocolate cake.
  • You can keep this wine until the end of 2022. This wine seems like is going to be smoother and more integrated with time (this means that the explosive aromas and fruits flavors it has now, will be more mixed with the tannins you notice at the end).
  • Curiosity: The Phoenicians were the first people to produce wine in this harsh area, characterized by poor rocky soil and an arid climate. In Roman antiquity, the word triga referred to a chariot team of three. Today, it refers to the three fossilized limestone mountain ranges that surround the vineyards, some of them planted 1925: Las Sierras de Salinas, Sierra de la Sima, and La Sierra de Umbria.

    • Oh,too late!. The bottle is already finished. Nothing awaits untill 2022 in my house. This said, as this section is a guide for beginners, I (try to) look for wines under $25. Triga, sadly, is a exception. As fas as I know, its pricing already catched and passed El Nido Clio.

Thanks a lot for your comment! 😉
